What is a MET?

    • MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) is a unit that estimates the energy cost of physical activities.

    SIMPLY PUT, 1 MET= RATIO OFMETABOLIC (BURNING) RATE COMPARED TO RESTING METABOLIC RATE

    • 1 MET = energy expended at rest (sitting quietly).
    • Generally speaking, Activities are classified by their MET value:

    • Sleeping:0.9 MET
    • Sedentary: ≤1.5 METs
    • Light activity: 1.6–2.9 METs
    • Moderate activity: 3–5.9 METs
    • Vigorous activity: ≥6 METs
